CREWS were called to reports of a fire at a Blackburn engineering firm.

The incident happened at Silicone Engineering in Blakewater Road at 1.45pm today.

Firefighters from Hyndburn and Blackburn were sent to the incident but by the time they arrived an engineer had already put the fire out using two fire extinguishers.

Two men were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to ensure the fire was out.

A fire service spokesman said the fire was confined to a length of ducting and ceiling tiles.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.

A fire service spokesman said: "Two fire engines and crews from Hyndburn and Darwen responded to a report of a fire in an industrial processing unit on commercial premises.

"There were two casualties suffering slight effects of breathing smoke and the men were attended to by ambulance paramedics.

"The fire was already out on arrival of firefighters, who nevertheless checked for any remaining hot spots using a thermal imaging camera.

"The fire was confined to a length of ducting and some ceiling tiles."
