The court was told the following morning when Mr Schofield went out he found his car had been attacked and there was a lump hammer lying in the road.

Clough, 32, of Heywood Street, Great Harwood, pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Schofiled and causing £1,437 worth of damage to his car.

He also admitted damaging a security sensor at Rishton Working Men's Club on a separate occasion.

Clough was jailed for six weeks after the court was told he is due to be recalled on prison licence which will keep him in custody until November.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Mr Schofield was at home with his wife when two children came knocking on their door at about 10 pm. The said they were scared of their dad and his wife let the children in.

Clough came banging on the door and shouting. Shortly after Mr Schofield saw the young girl home to her mother's house and was about to do the same with the boy when Clough and Adam Clough came in and both punched him in the face.

Miss Allan said the criminal damage at the Rishton club was committed after Clough was refused a drink because he was barred.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said Clough had been looking after his children and became concerned when he couldn't find them.

"He took exception when he discovered they were at Mr Schofield's house," said Mr Taylor.
