A MAN is set to appear in court charged with murdering an Accrington man who was found at home with a fractured skull.

Christopher Singleton, 36, of no fixed address, will appear before Preston Crown Court today.

A 44-year-old Accrington man, arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting the murder, has been bailed until October.

Detectives said Raich Keith Alcock, was discovered at his home in Arnold Street, Accrington, on September 6.

He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital but died last Friday, having never regained consciousness.

Detectives believe Mr Alcock suffered the fatal injuries in an attack in his own home.

It is believed the man was attacked with a single punch and it is not thought a weapon was used.

Det Insp Tim McDermott said: “This is a tragic incident and I would offer my deepest condolences to Mr Alcock’s family and friends.

“I believe there are people in the Accrington area, particularly people who frequent the town centre, who will have information that will help us understand what happened to Mr Alcock and I would urge them to make contact with us.”

A police spokesman said: “On the morning of September 6 a 52-year-old man, Raich Keith Alcock, was found collapsed at his home in Arnold Street, Accrington. Mr Alcock was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he remained in a coma whilst being treated for a fractured skull. On September 16 and having never regained consciousness Mr Alcock very sadly died.

“Detectives investigating the circumstances of Mr Alcock’s death now believe that he was the victim of an assault in the early hours of September 6 at his home address on Arnold Street. As a result a murder enquiry has been launched.
