Residents have been left shocked by the collision which happened at 2.25pm yesterday.

Nobody has been arrested over the crash.

Officers closed surrounding roads for several hours whilst investigation work was carried out, meaning lengthy delays for commuters.

Residents have raised safety fears following the crash and said there have been ‘close calls’ before.

One from Langroyd Road said: “It is a shock to hear about this accident, but it is a chronic road because it is used to get to the motorway a lot.

“Where the road joins Skipton Road it is a bad junction and I have had some close calls before.”

A resident of nearby The Croft said: “I’ve been here for 20 years and I’ve never heard anything quite like this.

“There are dangerous parts of that road though such as the join with Skipton Road.

“I am quite surprised really and it is a real shock.”

Another resident of The Croft said: “It’s a surprise to have it happen so close to my house. If accidents do happen they are usually further down the road.

“It’s very upsetting that a woman has passed away.

“It’s a busy road. The first thing I saw was all the traffic piling up outside my window and I was worried at that point that it must be quite bad.”

Vivary Bridge ward councillor Nathan Thomas McCollum said he had never had any problems on the stretch of road and said nobody had raised any concerns with him.

A police spokesman said: “We were called to Skipton Road, at the junction with Langroyd Road, in Colne, at 2.25pm on September 21 to reports that a cyclist and a lorry had been in collision. When we arrived an elderly female cyclist had been pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

“The collision involved a Redman truck and happened close to the Skipton roundabout. The male driver of the truck is not thought to have suffered any serious injuries. No arrests have been made.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting log number 776 of September 21, 2016.
