TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Colne woman who died following a road collision in Blackpool.

Marjorie Greenalgh, 60, was behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta which collided with a parked Citroen C3 vehicle, in Midgeland Road, near to Stockydale Road, in the resort.

She suffered serious head injuries in the smash last Saturday and was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Later she was transferred to the Royal Preston Hospital but did not recover and died on Tuesday.

Mrs Greenalgh was born in Colne and moved to Blackpool in her teens, attending Highfield High on the coast before working at Burton’s Biscuits.

She has left two children, James and Jo, and three grandchildren Joseph, William and Isabella, along with two sisters, Carol and Susan.

In a family statement, Jo said: “We are all absolutely devastated to lose our wonderful mum, who always put others before herself.

“Mum always had a smile and kind word for people.

“She was well liked because of her genuine and kind heart.

“She played a huge part in looking after her grandchildren whilst I worked.

“We have all realised how fragile life is and how we now have a huge hole in our lives that can never be filled.”

The family has thanked the emergency medics and police for their support in the wake of Mrs Greenalgh Jo added: “We have also been informed that a number of local residents provided mum with exceptional care and support whilst awaiting the emergency services.

“The kindness offered by total strangers who came to mum’s aid in her hour of need was so comforting that I cannot thank them enough.”

An appeal for information was issued by Lancashire Police in the wake of the collision, concerning anyone who was in the Midgeland Road area of Blackpool at the time, at around 11.30am.

The road was closed for three hours while police investigators attempted to reconstruct what had happened.
