A FLOOD warning has been issued in East Lancashire as the rain continues to come down.

The Environment Agency has issued the warning for Pimlico Brook at Clitheroe.

An Environment Agency spokesman said properties at particular risk include those in Longsight Avenue and Chatburn Road near to the cricket ground, as well as Warwick Drive and Dorset Drive.

The warning has led to the fire service telling motorists to avoid driving through flood water in the area.

Businesses and home owners have been told to call 999 if flood water enters their properties.

A fire service spokesman said: "We are advising residents and people travelling through the area not to drive through flood water.

"Residents or businesses that are affected by floodwater are advised to call 999 immediately. If you know of vulnerable people in the areas which could be affected, we advise you to check whether they are safe if it is safe.

"If you are worried about their safety, please call 999 immediately."

There are currently no other flood warnings in East Lancashire but there are alerts in Lancaster, Galgate, Scorton, Garstang, Bonds, Kirkland Bridge and Tarnacre.
