A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy was taken to hospital with a head injury after being bitten by a dog when he was out with friends.

Police said the child was riding his bike in Knotwood Court in Accrington and approached his 13-year-old friend who was walking his husky-type dog on its lead.

Officers said the dog then knocked the seven-year-old off his bike before biting him on the scalp.

The boy needed stitches to a deep wound to his scalp but the injuries are not life-threatening.

The incident happened at 6.15pm on Wednesday.

The dog has been seized by police and officers are awaiting a decision on whether to go ahead with a prosecution. The dog’s owners are said to have been ‘very cooperative’ with police.

Nobody has been arrested in connection with the attack.

A police spokesman said: “We were called to Knotwood Court in Accrington to reports of a dog bite.

“It appears that a 13-year-old boy was walking his large husky-type dog on the lead when he was approached by a seven-year-old boy who was riding a bike.

“As the boy has gone to say hello to the dog walker, who is known to him, the dog has jumped up and knocked him off the bike.

“While the 7-year-old was on the floor the dog has bitten him in the scalp, causing a deep gash. The wound required stitching. The injuries are not thought to be serious and are certainly not life-threatening.

“We have been around to the owner’s address, who have been very cooperative, and have seized the dog.

“We are now awaiting further instruction about whether a prosecution will be sought.

“Nobody has been arrested in relation to this incident.”
