BURNLEY fans will applaud two season ticket-holders who have died during today’s match against Liverpool at Turf Moor.

Clarets supporters will put their hands together in the 44th minute in memory of father-of-two Neil Kennerley, 44, who was found dead on Wednesday.

And in the 29th minute, the Turf Moor faithful will pay their respects to Chris Walker, 29, who died last month after falling from a bridge in Thompson Park.

Mr Kennerley’s partner Mary Reid, 38, said that football was her boyfriend’s life.

She said: “He was an outgoing person who would help anyone and he was a loving father and boyfriend.

“He was a season ticket hold at Turf Moor and took our kids to all the games.

“I felt that an applause for him would be fitting because he was such a huge fan and loved the fact they were in the Premier League.

“The kids were devastated.

“I know that when we are at the matches, because I will take his seat now, he will be with us.”

Mr Kennerley and Mr Walker will also have their pictures shown on the big screen at Turf Moor before the applause begins.

Mr Kennerley, who worked as a tree surgeon and a football coach for Belvedere Boys Club, leaves his children Logan, six, and Nathan, 18.

Mr Walker, formerly a paint sprayer for Hycrome Europe, was a season ticket holder for 18 years and his best friend Stuart Jolly has pledged to continue paying for his seat.

Mr Walker’s mother Alison said the Clarets were such an important part of him and Liverpool was the perfect game for a tribute.

She said: “Chris was not a follower and he wasn’t a leader, he was a magnet because everyone wanted to be his friend.

“He used to support Liverpool as well as Burnley when they weren’t in the same league, so it seemed like the perfect match to pay tribute to him.”

“He was so thrilled about them being in the Premier League and had a claret and blue funeral.”
