THE owner of a club which was burgled admitted the venue could have been in ‘real trouble’ if someone had not intervened.

Sunbird Records, in The Circus, Darwen, was raided by burglars in the early hours of Friday morning and had 10 bottles of spirits and cash stolen after only eight weeks of being open.

However, owner Jonny Lindley said the situation could have been worse if his colleague had not appeared and disturbed the criminals.

He said: “I had an expensive laptop in there, so I’ve been very lucky they didn’t take that.

“If my colleague hadn’t intervened and disturbed them we could have been in real trouble.

“I’m just thankful that it was stopped at that point and we can recover from this and make sure we are more secure next time.”

Police were called at 2.20am to the incident on Friday where it is believed that two men entered the building after busting open a fire exit, which was left damaged.

It was one of over 70 burglaries that have occurred in the town since June and police officers have been taking to the streets at night to hunt down the perpetrators.

Anyone with information is being asked to call police on 101 quoting ED1612140.
