A VARIETY of events will be happening throughout East Lancashire this weekend to entertain the whole family.

Saturday features activities such as a wrestling show and a childcare centre opening day involving a former England football international, while Sunday offers a selection of family fun days and a Teddy bears’ picnic.

Radical Wrestling League will be hoping that their show on Saturday night featuring competitors from Darwen in a family friendly atmosphere will benefit the whole community.

Corey Carver, who runs the event being held at Crown Sport and Social Club, said: “Everyone gets involved, it’s crowd orientated. It’s just a really fun night of action with a lot of fun characters.”

The show titled ‘Next in Line’, from the underground wrestling group will starts at 6.30pm at the Anchor Lane venue. Tickets, at £5, will be available on the door.

Also on Saturday, former Liverpool and England footballer Rob Jones will carry out the official opening of Evolution Childcare, on Shadsworth Business Park.

The open day will run from 10am to 1pm and everyone is welcome to come and view examples of activities and the large children’s learning facilities on offer.

One of the highlights of Sunday’s activitiesin East Lancashire is the One Voice Mela at Corporation Park, Blackburn between noon and 5pm.

The festival to encourage better health will include a bouncy castle, an assault course and fairground rides alongside offering advice for issues such as dementia and drug and alcohol advice.

Chairman of One Voice, Abrar Hussain said: “The One Voice Mela has become an annual event that is highly anticipated by the local community.

It is a great community event and is also a fun day out for the whole family.”

Sunday will also feature a free family fun day at Towneley Golf Club from noon until 4pm which will include activities such as tombola and a BBQ alongside a selection of golf challenges.

On that day, Thompson Park, Ormerod Road miniature railway will be taken over by Teddy bears for a picnic between noon and 4pm and anyone who brings a Teddy will receive a free train ride.

Throughout the weekend the annual Cloudspotting Music and Arts Festival will be taking place from today until Sunday at Gisburn Forest. The family friendly event will feature music, food and drink.

The weather for these events across the weekend is set to provide a mixture of conditions, and the sweltering heat of last week is unlikely to be present.

A Met office spokeswoman said:”It will be a bit fresher than it has been.

“It will be quite similar on both days. Both will have some sunshine and temperatures in the high teens but there is a chance of showers.”
