A 35-YEAR-OLD man suffered minor injuries after his car came off a country road and rolled several times into a nearby field.

The man was taken to Royal Preston Hospital shortly after the incident at 7.30am yesterday.

The emergency services were called to Broadhead Road and found a Citroen C1 had been severely damaged.

A police spokesman said the man’s car had left the Tarmac and rolled several times, before landing in a field.

He said: “He was 50 yards away from the field when he stopped.

“The man was taken to hospital by ambulance and received treatment for cuts and bruises to his head and upper body.

“His car was distorted and crumpled. It was in a very bad way and was stuck in the grass.”

The road was closed at the top of Broadhead Road, which becomes Jackson Heights Road which joins the Grane Road, while the car was recovered.

Heavy delays formed on Broadhead Road and Grane Road, with police officers regulating traffic on both lanes.

Cllr Julie Slater, who represents East Rural on Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “Broadhead Road, Grane Road, and Long Hey Lane are dangerous roads.

“They are very exposed up there and are open to the elements, such as snow, rain and fog.

“They become extremely slippy very quickly, especially when water runs off the fields if it’s been raining.

“My advice to residents would be to be extremely careful when travelling along them.

“Drivers are on their own out there.

“And accidents may not be noticed for long periods of time which could prove to be fatal.

“Driving carefully and cautiously is important in any situation but all the more so on Broadhead Road.

“I’m glad the man did not suffered any major injuries or worse.”
