A THREE-foot long yellow and brown snake has been captured after being seen on the loose on the streets of Haslingden.

Police received reports that the reptile was seen slithering along Regent Street at 11.45pm on Saturday.

Police patrols attended and began a search for the snake in the area.

It was found a short time later close to a nearby takeaway restaurant after trying to enter a ventilation chute near the premises.

Police placed the snake, which had yellow and brown hooped markings, into a tub and took it to the local police station.

Later and RSPCA inspector attended and took custody of the animal.

At that time it was not known what species of snake the captured creature was.

It is not known how it came to be that the snake was loose and out in the open.

The RSPCA have asked the owner of the snake, or anyone who knows whose it is to contact them on 0300 1234 999.
