EAST Lancashire singing star Diana Vickers will form part of an all-star cast in a new West End musical.

The former X Factor semi-finalist from Huncoat will star in the European premiere of Big The Musical.

The 24-year-old, who studied at Westholme School in Blackburn, will play the role of love interest Susan Lawrence in the musical adaptation of the 1988 film starring Tom Hanks.

Diana burst onto the entertainment scene back in 2008 on the hit Saturday night BBC singing competition before reaching number one in the UK singles chart with her debut single Once.

And this will not be the first time she has made a name for herself in a musical after spending this year portraying heroine Janet Weiss in The Rocky Horror Show.

She said on Twitter: “I’m excited to be joining this new production Big The Musical with Jay McGuinness, Denise Van Outen and Gary Wilmot.”

Diana was also crowned London Newcomer of the Year at the WhatsOnStage Theatregoers’ Choice Awards in 2010 for her lead role in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice at the Vaudeville Theatre.

Big The Musical will also feature The Wanted singer and Strictly Come Dancing champion Jay McGuinness as lead character Josh Baskin, Big Breakfast presenter Denise Van Outen as Mrs Baskin, Gary Wilmot as George Macmillan and The Hoosiers singer Irwin Sparkes as Paul.

The show tells the story of 12-year-old Josh Baskin who hates being little and grows up overnight after being granted a wish by a Zoltar Speaks machine at a carnival.

Big The Musical, which premiered in 1996, will open at Plymouth’s Royal Theatre on November 5 before transferring to Bord Gais Energy Theatre over Christmas ahead of a West End run next year.

Songs by David Shire and Richard Maltby will feature in the show and the choreography comes from Morgan Young.
