A 22-YEAR-OLD man suffered a broken back in a horror crash on the outskirts of Pendle, police said.

The man, who was the front seat passenger of a Toyota Picnic which crashed in to a wall outside Bridge House Farm on Keighley Road, Laneshaw Bridge, was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Officers said a 37-year-old man sat in the rear of the vehicle suffered bruising to his leg and was taken to Airedale General Hospital for treatment to his injuries.

The 51-year-old driver of the car was not seriously injured in the collision, which demolished a stone wall on the edge of the farm and is now cordoned off.

Police said that the crash, which took place opposite Wycoller View, happened at around 3.45pm on Friday and have appealed for any witnesses to come forward with any information they may have.

Keighley Road, which goes over The Moss and into Cowling, is a popular commuter route between East Lancashire and West Yorkshire, especially at peak hours, was closed for more than three hours by police, while the men were treated and accident investigation works were carried out.

Sgt David Hurst, of the road policing unit, said: “We are keen to speak with any witnesses to this accident.

“A 22-year-old man has suffered serious injuries and is currently in hospital being treated.

“If you saw what happened, please contact police immediately.”

Malcolm Smith, who owns Bridge House Farm, said: “I didn’t know what had happened until someone knocked on my front door.

“I know that two people were really injured because there was a helicopter and one of them was airlifted to hospital and I think the other one was taken off to Airedale.

“It would have been just before 4pm so there is always a steady stream of traffic along this road at that time.”
