POLICE are appealing for information after a man was left with a broken jaw following an assault in Accrington.

At around 5pm on Saturday the victim, an 18 year old man, was on Countess Street at the junction with Emma Street when two men ran towards him.

One of the men hit him with a metal pipe before punching him to the face, knocking him to the floor and causing him to lose consciousness.

The victim suffered a broken jaw in two places.

The man who hit him with the pole is described as Asian, aged in his mid twenties to early thirties, approximately 5ft 11 to 6ft 1in tall, stocky build with short dark hair, a beard and a gold tooth.

DC Bryony Midgley of Blackburn CID said: “This was a vicious attack on the victim who has been left with a serious injury to his jaw which requires surgery. We are trying to trace anyone who may have witnessed the assault or has any information that could assist with our enquiries.”
