McCash, 36, of Bolton Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to stealing £8,294 from Safestyle UK. He was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Elliot Taylforth, prosecuting, said McCash was working for Safestyle UK and borrowed a works vehicle to drive to Rising Bridge to collect his wages. He was waiting outside when two colleagues returned from the bank with the money in a brown envelope.

“They were going inside when McCash jumped out of his vehicle, grabbed the envelope and got back in his car,” said Mr Taylforth. “One of the men followed and McCash threatened to stab him before driving off.”

When McCash was interviewed about the offence 12 days later he said he had spent all the money.

Mr Taylforth said McCash had a criminal record but had not been in trouble for six years.

Richard Prew, defending, said it was accepted the magistrates would want an all optionsa pre-sentence report.
