A MAN and a woman have been arrested following a police chase in Blackburn.

The incident happened along Roman Road at around 2pm today and resulted in a two-car crash.

Police attempted to stop a Renault Megane but the male driver left the scene, before colliding with a Toyota estate car.

The 27-year-old male driver of the Megane, who suffered a head injury in the crash, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty, dangerous driving and failing to stop when instructed to do so by an officer.

He was also arrested over three separate assaults which took place earlier in the year.

An 18-year-old woman who was in the back of the Megane was arrested on suspicion of possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply.

They are currently in custody.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured.

No police officers were injured and no police vehicles were damaged in the pursuit.

Roman Road was closed for over tow hours at the junctions with Lytham Road and Fishmoor Drive to allow a fuel spillage to be cleared by Highway Agency staff.
