A NURSE from East Lancashire is set to face his professional watchdog today amid claims he failed to carry out proper clinical procedures involving patients at two different surgeries.

Peter Milton Hutchinson, an advanced nurse practitioner faces the bulk of the allegations before the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in relation to his employment at Slaidburn Country Practice in December 2014.

But he will also face one claim, when he appears before a fitness to practice hearing, that he failed to perform a urine dipstick test on a patient at Pendle Valley Mill Practice in Nelson the previous September.

Each is run by East Lancashire Medical Services, the latter under a federation agreement.

He is accused, on Christmas Eve 2014, of failing to carry out a number of tests, including for oxygen saturation levels and an abdominal and throat examination, on a patient at Slaidburn who had rashes.

Further basic tests, including for things such as the patient’s temperature, heart rate, motor functions and susceptibility to light were said to have been not carried out on December 30, with Hutchinson later insisting to regulators he had.

Investigators from the NMC said that the nurse had noted down carrying out the proper procedures in their records but evidence will be brought before the five-day hearing in an effort to contradict his claims.
