A CHARITY champion raised more than £100,000 with her latest lavish bash.

Debbie Dowie — who founded Boot Out Breast Cancer — hosted the charity's sixth annual black-tie Masquerade Ball at Manchester's Palace Hotel.

Debbie and her football pundit husband Iain welcomed a whole host of stars for the glitzy event.

They raised £102,000 which will be spent on the latest diagnostic equipment for the breast screening units in the North West.

Guests were treated to a lavish Champagne and oyster reception, a three-course meal and entertainment including an international opera singer, classical musicians, a saxophonist and a set from Radio 1 DJ Nihal.

Among the guests were the charity's patrons, former England football captain Alan Shearer and 11-time Paralympic gold medal swimmer and cyclist Dame Sarah Storey.

Television stars Nikki Sanderson, actor in Hollyoaks, and Tanya Bardsley, star of The Real Housewives of Cheshire also attended to support the cause.

An auction hosted by Sky Sports pundit Iain and Key 103 breakfast show host Chelsea Norris boosted the fundraising pot.

Revellers battled it out to win prizes including a luxury holiday in Barbados, meet and greets with stars including comic Jason Manford and chat show host Jeremy Kyle, and lunch and a round of golf with Blackburn and Newcastle legend Alan Shearer.

The main event followed a fortnight-long silent auction held on the Boot Out Breast Cancer website.

A range of experiences, sports tickets and memorabilia was donated by companies and individuals from across the country to go under the hammer.

Debbie was referred to the Royal Bolton Hospital in August 2009 after she discovered a lump.

She was treated by a consultant breast surgeon and, after undergoing further treatment at a private hospital, made a full recovery.

Debbie said: "I have been absolutely blown away by the generosity of our sponsors, donors and supporters.

"It is amazing that every single item in both live and silent auctions has been donated, ensuring every penny raised is donated to the charity. It is truly humbling.”

Dame Sarah added: “This is such an incredible and important evening for our charity every year and it really showcases the amazing work that is done to buy the equipment.

"I am so proud to be involved and never cease to be humbled by the generosity of everyone involved. Debbie and her team are truly inspiring and it is fantastic to see the success of the charity.”
