A MAN who tried to rescue his cat had to be saved by firefighters after the he ‘got into difficulty’ attempting to reach his pet.
The fire service was called to a canal side in Blackburn to help the man who had got stranded in a rescue attempt.

The incident took place at the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, near Warwick Close.
A police spokesman said: “A gentleman was trying to rescue his pet cat from a canal near to Warwick Close.
“In trying to rescue his cat, he got stranded on a rock and the fire service were called out to assist him.
“He has been checked by paramedics.
“One of our patrols attended at 7.15am on Friday.”
A spokesman for the Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: “A man got into difficultly attempting to rescue a cat from the water.
“Two fire engines and crews from Blackburn responded to the 999 call and firefighters brought the man and the cat safely onto the towpath.
“Both were uninjured.”
