Crews from Darwen and Blackburn dealt with the large fire, which is the second this week.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service's Blackburn station said: “Moorland fires destroy fragile and delicate areas of the countryside.

“Enjoy the outdoors responsibly to prevent this.

“We were up on the moors overnight.

“Both our appliances were called out to the fire.”

Acting group manager for the service Liam Wilson on Twitter said: “Another large deliberate fire on Darwen Moor.

“It causes lots of damage and drains Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service resources.”

Resident Pete Wilson said: “Another moorland fire at Darwen, the third this year.”

It comes after another moorland fire which took place on the moors for more than a day on Friday, April 22.

The previous fire started at Whitehall Farm, Whitehall Road, but spread overnight to the Turton side of the moors.

It took firefighters until the next night to fully extinguish the fire, which could have been a deliberate arson attack.
