A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car in Blackburn.

The youngster was taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital after the incident, which happened near to the post office in Whalley Old Road, police said.

He suffered a possible broken collarbone and head injuries, as well as concussion, in the accident at about 1.30pm on Saturday.

A resident who lives nearby said: “My daughter saw the ambulance and told me something was happening.

“There was a small and a large ambulance near to the taxi involved and lots of people were crowding around.”

The 45-year-old resident called for safety measures to be implemented along the road to prevent any future accidents.

She said: “There have been two accidents in the same place in the last two months.

“We have five junctions close together, which causes huge problems.

“I’m worried they might crash into the house at some point.

“I think we should get the speed limit reduced or one of the junctions closed off, or make it a one-way system if we can.”

Another resident, 42, said: “The kids heard it and saw an ambulance.

“A seven-year-old boy ran out into the road.

“It happened at the junction.”

A employee at the off licence on Whalley Old Road said: “There are lots of children on this road and they just walk across the road.

“People treat this road like it’s a motorway and drive really fast along it.”

A police spokesman said: “The seven-year-old child stepped into the path of a car.

“There was just one vehicle involved and the driver stopped at the scene.

“The child was in the middle of the road.

“It was low-speed and not life-threatening but he was taken to Liverpool.

“They will be keeping him in for observations.

“He had head injuries and concussion, and possibly a broken collarbone.”
