A YOUNGSTER who dreams of being a professional animator has been given a boost by getting his work retweeted by celebrities.

Nine-year-old Blackburn schoolboy Aiden Thompson loves nothing better than drawing his favourite film and cartoon characters.

The youngster’s drawing of Homer and Bart Simpson has been retweeted by the official Twitter account for The Simpsons @TheSimpsons who told mum Rachael: "Tell him we really loved his picture and don’t stop drawing".

Mum Rachael Walmsley, 30, of Pilmuir Road, Blackburn, said her son’s art has attracted the attention of around six celebrities so far.

She said: “I started posting them on Facebook and they kept getting a lot of likes.

“People kept saying that I needed to show off his art.

“Then people were retweeting them and saying they were brilliant. He was about five and in reception class when he started and they noticed how good he was. He started off drawing skeletons.

“I was quite surprised. I can draw but I can’t draw as well as Aiden.

“He likes drawing people out of movies and Disney ones like Alice in Wonderland. Johnny Depp is not on Twitter but Matt Lucas retweeted him.”

The Our Lady Of Perpetual Succour RC Primary School pupil who has learning difficulties, now aims to be a professional animator when he is older.

“His friends think he’s amazing and are always asking him to draw stuff. It only takes him about ten minutes to do some of them but some he can spend up to an hour on,” added Rachael.

Unlike Aiden his two sisters Ella, 11 and Hollie, five, are not quite so keen on drawing.

Rachael said: “I’m looking for some classes for him and I want him to get noticed. He loves it. He’s always telling people he’s an artist. I’m very proud of him.”

Aiden's school said: "A statement from Our Lady Of Perpetual Succour RC Primary School in Blackburn, read: “The school has recognised Aiden’s talent for art from an early age. We’ve always supported his talent and We are absolutely thrilled for him.”
