Blackburn magistrates heard Jess Volkert then smashed a light off the roof of the investigator's police vehicle.

Volkert, of Earl Street, Clayton-le-Moors, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour towards Suzanne Hutchinson and damaging as police vehicle.

He was sentenced to 13 weeks in prison suspended for two years and made subject to a curfew for 12 weeks and a 20 day rehabilitation activity requirement.

He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation to Suzanne Hutchinson, £100 compensation to Lancashire Constabulary, £85 costs and £80 victim surcharge.

Volkert had previously hit the headlines when he appeared in BBC Panorama's documentary about the Shadsworth estate in 2012, as well as two Asbo's being served against him.

Tracey Yates, prosecuting, said the officer was driving along Shadsworth Road in Blackburn when she saw a group of people involved in a disturbance.

Volkert, who she described as 'violent and angry', was at the heart of the incident and he was punching and kicking at other people.

"She pulled over and called for assistance but when she got out of her vehicle everyone in the group turned towards her," said Mrs Yates.

"The defendant was abusive and then walked towards the officer with a short metal ladder in his hands. He was shouting as he threw it in her direction and she was very scared."

Graeme Parkinson, defending, said his client had been working at a bakery until March when he was made redundant through no fault of his own.

"There are signs he is maturing and becoming more responsible but unfortunately he does sometimes resort to alcohol," said Mr Parkinson. "It looks like his previous problems of drug abuse are behind him."
