DAVID Jones feels the two-week international break will be as good for Burnley mentally as well as physically, as they psyche themselves up for another promotion assault and a tilt for the Championship title.

Having held a seven-point advantage at the top of the table the Clarets head to second placed Brighton in their next game on April 2 looking to increase a now four-point gap, following Saturday’s home draw with Wolves.

The result was initially met with disappointment and frustration after Sam Vokes’ header was cancelled out by Danny Batth in stoppage time.

But while a six-game winning run was brought to an end, the point maintained Burnley’s 15-game unbeaten run.

And that is something Jones is looking to build on when domestic action resumes against their nearest challengers at the Amex Stadium, with the midfielder believing the break has come at a good time to help the Clarets re-charge for the last eight games.

“There are a lot of games in the Championship so it is good for the mental side, especially at this time of the season. It’s very important,” said Jones. “It will do us the world of good.

“We’ve been on a good run recently so it will be good to have a bit of a break and to reflect and to re-charge for the last effort of the remaining games of the season.

“Saturday was disappointing. That doesn’t happen to often to us - conceding late - but it happens in football and we’ve got to reflect that we’ve been on a good run and we’re still in a good position and we’ve got to take the positives.”

Jones is with the squad on a sunshine training camp in Spain this week, and said: “We’ve got a close team and good team spirit so it will be nice to spend some time together and work on a few things on the training field.

“We’ll be doing a fair bit of training out there. I’m sure it will be an enjoyable week, working on some things to try to get that balance of relaxation and work.

“There are a lot of positives, we’ve been doing a lot of good things.

“We’ll get ourselves back up and going again for a big game against Brighton.”

The Seagulls’ 2-1 win at MK Dons on Saturday, combined with the Clarets’ point, means there is an even greater emphasis on that fixture.

But Jones warned nothing will be settled on the day “There are going to be a lot of twists and turns in the last eight or so games – there are going to be some big moments to come,” he said.

“We just have to embrace them and we’ll look forward to the game.

“It’s all tight at the top of the table and it’s going to be an exciting conclusion to the season as always.

“We’re just going to look at the next game again. But there are a lot of good teams up there who are fighting for points and it’s going to be as always a tight table at the end.”
