'DESPICABLE' burglars stole jewellery belonging to the victim's dead wife during a raid in Bacup.

Police officers are appealing for information after the incident on Monday, February 29 at a property in Bankside Lane.

Jewellery, including a gold-plated watch and a solid silver bracelet, belonging to the victim's deceased wife was taken.

The raiders also stole £500 worth of Euros.

PC Kazim Garda from East Division Burglary Team said: “This is a despicable crime in which the victim’s late wife’s jewellery was stolen and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed any suspicious activity to contact us.

"The items stolen were the first gifts bought by the victim and his wife when they first started to see each other 40 years ago, they hold extreme sentimental value and we are very keen to hear from anyone who may have information about the jewellery.”
