A 60-YEAR-OLD man from Darwen has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer during a far-right rally in Liverpool city centre on Saturday afternoon.
Riot police were called to St George's Plateau after a planned demonstration by the North West Infidels became a stand off with anti-facist protestors.
The man is one of 34 people that were arrested following the disorder which saw smoke bombs and bricks thrown into crowds.
A police officer was treated in hospital for concussion after being hit by a missile.
A number of discarded weapons were recovered by officers and all those arrested were taken to police stations across Merseyside.
