THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning of snow and ice for parts of the North West.

The warning will be in place from 5pm tonight to 10pm on Tuesday.

Rain is expected to move in from the west, falling as snow above 200-300m for a time, giving a risk of temporary snowfall accumulations of 1 to 2cm and perhaps up to 5cm over high ground above 400m.

There will also be a risk of patchy ice where rain, sleet and snow fall on frozen surfaces.

The Met Office warned: “A weather front will move eastwards on Monday afternoon and evening bringing rain to much of the north and west.

"The rain is expected to fall as snow above 200-300m for a time on Monday, but will turn back to rain by the early hours of Tuesday morning."
