A WOMAN has told a court one of the men accused of murdering her friend in a flat in Burnley brought her to the scene, saying: “She knows people. She will sort it.”

Kathleen Green, a self-confessed heroin user, denied smoking heroin in the bedroom with Gary Burley while her friend Keith Passmore lay dead in the bath.

She said: “I couldn’t have smoked heroin after seeing that body. I couldn’t have stood still.”

Giving evidence at Preston Crown Court, Mrs Green said she did not believe Mr Passmore, 60, had been murdered until she arrived at the flat in Clifton Street and saw his body in a bath.

On January 10 2015 her former partner Paul Howarth, 48, and Gary Burley, 45, came to her flat - a short walk from the scene - and told her they had “done something bad".

But Mrs Green said she put on her coat and shoes to go with them to the flat in Clifton Street - where she was threatened with a multi-tool by Burley.

After seeing Mr Passmore’s body, Mrs Green said she began screaming at Howarth.

She told the court: “I called him all the names under the sun. I said ‘he’s got a family'.”

Mrs Green told the court she asked the men why they had got her involved.

She said: “Paul said ‘she knows people. Kathy’ll sort it.’ That’s what was in his head but what I’d seen...me coming out and seeing that. I was in shock.”

Mrs Green left the flat after about 15 minutes and later called the police to report Mr Passmore’s death.

Only once she had left the flat and planning on phoning the police did she take drugs, she said.

Burley denies making threats to kill Mrs Green while she was in the flat with them.

But Mrs Green insisted the threats had taken place and she was frightened by them.

Burley and Howarth deny murder.
