A MOTORCYCLIST is believed to have jumped a red light in a bid to evade police before colliding with a car in Burnley.

The 24-year-old is said to have been riding a black Honda CBR motorbike without insurance and when police attempted to stop him he is said to have jumped a red light and collided with a a white Nissan Qashqai.

The man suffered a leg injury during the collision, which happened in Todmorden Road at around 11.15am on Monday.

He was also said to be bleeding from the mouth and nose and was taken to Burnley General Hospital by ambulance.

The female driver of the car was said to not have been seriously injured.

The incident meant that the A671 Todmorden Road was closed for neatly three hours in both directions between the Parliament Street junction and the Temple Street junction for the man to receive treatment and investigation work to be carried out.

A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 11.15am this morning to a road traffic collision in Todmorden Road in Burnley.

“We attended to a male with leg injuries.

“He was taken to Burnley General Hospital.”
