A ROMANTIC couple celebrated their 33rd anniversary by recreating their first date and their later engagement at a Pendle pub.

To celebrate 33 years together, Jayne and Ray Copeland decided to recreate their engagement in 1982 using the original receipt, even tucking into the same grub a T-bone steak and gammon.

The receipt from 1982, shows the couple’s meal and drinks came to £21.12.

Jayne is Lancashire born and bred and her family ran the The Herders Inn in Colne, while Ray was a policeman originally from London who had been posted to the town.

Ray proposed to Jayne at the Barley Mow, and as well as the receipt, he also kept the champagne cork from this special night.

The couple married on August 27, 1983 and are now living in Bingley, West Yorkshire and have two children.

After hearing of the love story from a friend, the Seafood Pub Company, which runs the Barley Mow, felt it was only fitting to offer the couple an overnight stay and complementary meal.

Mum-of-two Jayne said: “We were absolutely thrilled to be invited back to the Barley Mow.

“We loved the pub back in its heyday, so we’re excited to see the transformation years later.

“It’s a wonderful gesture from the Seafood Pub Company and we can’t thank them enough.”

Joycelyn Neve, managing director of the Seafood Pub Company, said: “It’s such a lovely story, that we felt we had to do something to mark the special occasion.

“We love hearing stories from the past, so this was the perfect opportunity to give something back.”
