Three men in drug case

THREE men have appeared in court before Blackburn magistrates on drug supply charges.

Amar Ahmed, 24, of Higher Antley Street, Accrington, Paul David Freeman, 21, of Laithe Street, Burnley, and John Nicholson, 30, of Eddlestone Street, Accrington, were sent in custody to Burnley Crown Court charged with possessing cocaine and heroin with intent to supply.

Ahmed is also charged with being concerned in the supply of the drugs and Nicholson with possessing offensive we-
apons, a credit card-style knife and a baton-style torch, in Richmond Hill Street and dangerous driving on Perth Street, Garbett Street and Higher Antley Street.

 

Driver bailed

BENJAMIN John Queen, 25, of Bridge Street, Rishton, was remanded on bail by Blackburn magistrates after pleading guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance. 

The court was told Queen was due to be sentenced at the crown court for offences including dangerous driving soand the latest offences were adjourned until after he has been dealt with by the crown court.

 

Asbo breach by man, 35

A 35-YEAR-old man was out of luck when he went into Morrisons to buy a Lottery ticket.

Blackburn magistrates heard Gareth James Harrison was prohibited from entering the shop by an anti-social behaviour order and he was arrested before he made a purchase.

Harrison, of St Peter Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to breaching an ASBO.

 

Pair sent to crown court

TWO men have appeared before Blackburn magistrates charged with handling stolen plant worth £17,000.

Duncan Jones Johnstone, 35, and Jim Johnstone, 32, both of Haslingden Road, Blackburn, were sent on bail to Preston Crown Court charged with dishonestly receiving two stolen diesel generators belonging to A-Plant Hire.

 

Drug charge

AADIL Khalid, 30, of Beardsworth Street, Blackburn, was bailed after he appeared before Blackburn magistrates charged with possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

 

Man is bailed

SAAD Rasul, 22, of Dukes Brow, Blackburn, was sent on bail to Preston Crown Court when he appeared before Blackburn magistrates charged with dangerous driving on Barbara Castle Way and failing to stop when required by a police officer.

 

Jail sentence is suspended

A MAN caught driving in breach of two disqualifications was told that he had come close to going to prison.
Imran Hussain, 37, of Manor Road, Blackburn, was convicted after trial of driving while disqualified and without insurance. 

He was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to do 30 days rehabilitation activity requirement and 150 hours unpaid work. He was banned from driving for two years and ordered to pay £620 costs and £80 victim surcharge.

 

Not guilty plea

MATTHEW Howard, 32, of Duncan Square, Oswaldtwistle, was remanded on bail by Blackburn magistrates after pleading not guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis.

 

Assault charges

IAN Hindle, 40, of Church Walk, Blackburn, was remanded in custody by Blackburn magistrates after pleading not guilty to two charges of assaulting Tanya Derbyshire.

 

Six packs of steak stolen

JOHN Michael Hosty, 41, of Lomax Street, Darwen, who stole six packs of steak worth £20 told police he had cooked them straight away at home because he was starving. 

Hosty admitted to theft from the Co-op, Blackburn Road. He was given a six-month conditional discharge and must pay £20 compensation, £85 costs and £15 victim surcharge. The court heard he was identified from CCTV footage.
