A KIND-HEARTED teenager has dedicated her time to charity work as a lasting tribute to her dad who lost his battle with cancer.

Bethany Wolstencroft, 13, wanted to carry on her dad Warren's hard work raising money for charity despite suffering from Epithelioid Sarcoma and losing his right arm to the disease.

Mr Wolstencroft died at home at aged just 39 in 2013 after battling the rare soft tissue cancer for the second time.

He had organised many charity events including a football match at Blackburn Rovers for British Limbless Ex Service Men's Association and served in the Queen's Lancashire Regiment before his illness forced him to retire.

Now his daughter Bethany, of Pole Lane, Darwen has followed in his footsteps and raised money for both Macmillan Cancer Support and St Peter's Church which is collecting cash to restore its organ.

Bethany's biggest achievement was setting up a website for people to donate blankets and pillows to the RSPCA to keep animals comfortable and warm.

Bethany, who attends Canon Slade School in Bolton, arrived at the charity with a car full of all the blankets she had collected and her mum Emma Jefferson, 36, said she was 'astounded' by the effort she had made.

She said: "Doing the charity work has helped her get through because it's been a really difficult time for her.

"In her first cake sale for Macmillan she raised £70 and then in the second for St Peter's Church she raised £98.

"I am extremely proud of her because how many 13-year-olds would be interested in doing something like this?

"She made so much effort going back and forth to people's houses, collecting all the stuff and putting leaflets through their doors.

"It has all been her idea and she's had very little help from me.

"She's focused all her energies into this and I'm really impressed."

Her gran Lynne Roberts said she was also taken aback by Bethany's generosity.

She said: "She's dealt with the death of her dad in a really positive way and it's brilliant that's she's come with her own ideas to help people and animals.

"She loves animals so it's no surprise she chose to raise money for the RSPCA. They have two tortoises at home and an African grey parrot. I'm really proud of what she's done."
