A WOMAN who burgled a home after being wrongly sent there has escaped jail.

Kara-Jane McGill even went on to accuse the innocent burglary victim of sexually assaulting her, Burnley Crown Court was told.

She was involved in a break-in in Colne during which an Acer laptop, X Box controller, wireless headset, blue Ikea bag and a bunch of keys were taken.

McGill, formerly of Winterton Road, Darwen, but now of Clifton Drive, Blackpool, admitted burglary on June 2 last year. She was given an eight-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months.

Passing sentence, Judge Beverley Lunt said: "She was directed to the wrong address. Everyone agrees that she went to the wrong address, which she then proceeded to break into."

The judge told McGill it was still clearly wrong that the defendant had taken part in the burglary of the unsuspecting householder.

Prosecutor Emma Kehoe said it was apparent that three people had taken part in the raid but only McGill's fingerprints were found at the scene, where it was apparent that entry had been forced at the house, which led to her arrest.
