YOUNG people in Blackburn are being asked to back a bid to bring Blackburn's nightlife back and find a catchy name for the fast-growing group behind it.

Almost 1,300 members have joined a Facebook campaign seeking to boost the fun and fizz in the town centre after dark.

Now organisers want a new title to replace the current 'Improve Blackburn's Nightlife' tagline and feedback on what young people want to see in the pubs, clubs and concert halls.

Spokesman Jason Walker, 35, said: "We have a lot of support.

"Now the regeneration of the town centre is happening we think it's the right time to revive Blackburn's once thriving nightlife.

"We have the backing of town centre pubs including the Sir Charles Napier, The Sun and The Zy Bar as well as DJs like Claudio Bellusci and Lee 'Skippy' Phillips.

"The group now needs a catchy new name to draw people in and feedback to our facebook survey about what people actually want in the town.

"Blackburn may never recreate the glory days the 70s, 80s and 90s but we want people to come have a good time.

"There are couple of investors keen to start up nightclub here a but we need a movement going to ensure they and others do come."

Mr Bellusci, 34, said: "I want to see the nightlife I remember from my early days DJing in Blackburn pubs and clubs come back."

Former doorman James Newton said: "I had great times in Blackburn in my youth and I want today's young people to have the same experience."

Blackburn with Darwen borough regeneration boss Phil Riley said: "The council supports this initiative.

"It cannot revive Blackburn's nightlife itself."
