A YOUNG mum has won an army of internet fans for her stories for teenage girls which she writes in between changing nappies.

Gillian Brown, 34, who goes by the pen name G S Banks, has written three short and two full-length stories which can be accessed free-of-charge online and now hopes to publish her first novel.

Her stories have had more than 2.3 million hits and she has a fan base of around 11,000 from across the world.

Her work has also attracted the attention of American television station USA Network which asked her to write a story for one of its new shows ‘Dig’ about FBI agent Peter stationed in Jerusalem who uncovers a 2,000-year-old conspiracy while investigating the murder of a young female archaeologist.

Gillian, who was raised in Barrowford, said: “My stories are published on wattpad which is like YouTube for writers.

“I’m looking for a literary agent at the moment. I’ve had some interest and I am waiting to hear back from three different people.”

Mother-of-one Gillian’s most successful stories to date are Dovetail Diaries which are set in Lancashire and Animal, a story about a girl from New York born into a family who possess animal super powers.

The former West Craven High School pupil, who now lives in Edinburgh, won several writing prizes as a child and around eight years ago scooped a New Writing Scotland prize for young writers.

Gillian’s favourite authors include Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins, Phillip Pullman who writes the Dark Materials series, and Keira Cass who also writes for the teenage girl market.

She added: “I get emails every week from young people.

“A girl in Tunisia asked if she could do her school project on one of my stories. Another girl in the Philippines told me how reading my work gave her comfort after her uncle was kidnapped.

“It can be a bit lonely looking after a baby at home so I like to write when I can. My son inspires me.”
