ELECTRICITY North West has cancelled a number of planned network maintenance jobs to focus on repairing damage caused by Storm Clodagh.

Engineers have restored power to more than 10,000 homes across the region since yesterday afternoon and have been out again from first light to continue restoring the 500 remaining properties.

The severe weather, which followed a Met Office yellow weather warning for wind in the region, caused a number of faults in Cumbria, Lancashire and the Peak District.

Engineers have now successfully restored power to more than 10,000 homes as the total number of properties affected rose throughout the evening and this morning. All but 500 properties - spread across the region - are now back on supply and engineers are continuing to work through the day in very difficult conditions.

There are currently more than 18 separate faults on the network caused by the bad weather, which is down from more than 100 yesterday. Electricity North West are still closely monitoring the weather and has additional engineers on hand to repair damage and restore power.

Electricity North West Systems Manager, Chris Fox, said: “We're continuing to work hard to restore supplies to last remaining 500 customers as quickly as possible. We will continue to work throughout the day and closely monitor the weather."
