A BURNLEY brewery has launched a seasonal ale to tempt drinkers as it reaches the end of celebrations for its 150th anniversary.

Moorhouse’s has crafted the beer Winter Looms to mark the Yuletide of its special year.

Managing director David Grant said Winter Looms would “round off a terrific series of creative monthly seasonal brews throughout our 150th anniversary year”.

He added: “Our brewers have used speciality malts to carefully craft a complex but wonderfully balanced cask ale.

“Also, once again, our popular festive blends are available. We make it clear that they are blends of our award-winning core brews.

“With these we aim to help publicans make the best of the crucial December trade – selling quality guest cask ales that they know they can rely on.” Winter Looms is described as a “complex, red-hued, winter session ale, made from German speciality Carared and Melanoidin malts combined with American Vanguard and English Phoenix hops for “herby and floral notes, followed by a spicy, molasses, chocolate finish”.

The brewery has also created an anniversary pump clip which gives a nod to Burnley’s long cotton heritage.

It has also released another batch of rebranded popular blended ales for December.

They are golden tipples Santa’s Spell, Snow Globe and Ebenezer Ale and the amber Christmas Cauldron.

Moorhouse’s expects another Christmas boost for 2015, following record sales last year.

The company’s core ales Premier Bitter, Pride of Pendle, Black Cat, Blond Witch, Pendle Witches Brew and newcomer White Witch are distributed nationwide.

Last festive season saw a sales surge of 26 per cent compared to December 2013.
