Man cleared of sex charges

A MAN has been found not guilty of a number of sexual offences after a five-day crown court trial.

Thomas Anthony Murgatroyd, 22, of Gladstone Street, Bacup, was cleared of four charges of sexual activity with a girl under the age of 13, when he himself was 12-years-old. A jury at Preston Crown Court returned not guilty verdicts on each of the charges.
 

Claims denied

DANIEL Lee Cockburn, 30, of Lytham Road, Blackburn, was remanded in custody by town magistrates after pleading not guilty to assault, damaging a cardigan and resisting police.

 

Man admits torching van

AN arsonist who torched a van in Nelson has been given a community sentence by magistrates.

Shaun Aspin, 27, admitted setting fire to a Ford Transit van belonging to Arts Media Services Ltd, causing damage totalling £3,000.

He must complete 30 days of specified activities ordered by the probation service before November 2016.

Aspin, of Alexander Street, Nelson, was ordered to pay £3,000 compensation and a £180 criminal courts charge.

 

Shop armed robbery case

A MAN has appeared before Blackburn magistrates charged with a knifepoint robbery at the Co-op store in Oswaldtwistle on October 11.

Daniel Malcolm Devlin, 28, of Lytham St Annes, was sent in custody to Burnley Crown Court charged with robbing Rick Austin of £120.

 

Knife denial

SAMUEL Adam Todd, 26, of Spencer Street, Accrington, was remanded on bail by Blackburn magistrates after pleading not guilty to possessing a knife in Abbey Street on Saturday, October 31.
