DANNY Collins is daring to aim high and Rossendale are poised to deliver a mighty promotion push in National League Three North.

Dale are flying high in the top six and Collins and his coaching team have made excellent progress this term, his side having won six of eleven league outings.

That leaves Rossendale just three points behind Hull who are third.

After last week’s defeat away to Billingham, Rossendale once again underlined their spirit and resolve with this win at home to Ilkley on the Yorkshire side’s first ever visit to Marl Pits.

There were only three tries scored, two to the home side and one for the visitors – the other points from penalties.

Ilkley opened the scoring with a try from Paul Petchy converted by Joe Rowntree but four penalties from Lewis Allen afforded the visitors a 12-10 lead just before the break, Rowntree restoring his side’s advantage from his second shot at goal for 12-13 at the interval.

In the second period it was Rowntree again with his third penalty extending the visitors advantage but two penalties for Allen gave Rossendale the lead.

It needed something special to break the deadlock and Jamie Albinson provided it.

The scrum half opted to take a tap penalty to create the opportunity for George Peel to cross for a try, Allen slotting the conversion.

Ilkley replied with a penalty but Rossendale powered up field and Leyton Taylor went over.
