A MAN has been arrested after the body of a woman was discovered at a house in Hyndburn.

The emergency services were called to the scene in Oswaldtwistle shortly before 11am yesterday.

The 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing ecstasy with the intent to supply and the possession of cocaine.

The man, who has not been charged, has been released on bail until February 9.

A post mortem examination on the 51-year-old woman, who has not been identified by police, is expected to be carried out today.

Police have said that the incident is being classed as an ‘unexpected death’ and it is not being treated as suspicious.

Two ambulances and two rapid response vehicles were called to Union Road along with a number of police officers.

The emergency services searched the scene.

Information regarding the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death have not been released by the police.

Passerby Adam Bell said: “The police and ambulances came screaming up the road and came to a sudden halt on the side of the road.

“Police officers got out and went into the house and did not come out for a while.

“It’s sad that this person has passed away and I hope that the family have been informed.”

Sarah Gibson said: “I can’t believe something like this would happen.

“It’s so sad and my thoughts go out to the family.

“I hope that they get the answers they need as soon as possible.”

Police officers remained at the house near the Civic Arts Theatre for a number of hours following the call out.

A spokeswoman for the police said: “This incident is being treated as an ‘unexpected death’.

“One man remains in custody and has been arrested on suspicion on a number of offences.

“A post mortem examination is expected today.”
