AN APPEAL has been issued by police after a car was broken into an and arson attack launched using a firework in the Wensley Fold area of Blackburn.

Two men were seen to smash the window of a white Dacia estate car, parked in Ribblesdale Place, and throw a lit firework into the footwell.

Police say the pair then ran off, with a third man, towards Palatine Road, at around 7.25pm on Bonfire Night.

County firefighters were called in to extinguish the blaze and those who may have witnessed the attack are now being urged to come forward.

Pc Gary Hennighan said: “This was an extremely reckless thing to do and luckily no people were hurt.

“The car was close to houses and other vehicles and this could have been a lot worse.

“I am eager to trace a man who may have seen the offenders running off after committing the crime.

“He came forward and spoke with another witness but left the area before details could be obtained.”
