EAST Lancashire commuters were left stranded and frustrated this morning after a number of services were cancelled.

Over-running engineer work meant services through the area are unable to run.

Replacement buses were not available for those waiting at Accrington station at 6am.

Commuter Mark Thompson said: "There was no information at the station and no replacement to get me to Blackburn. 

"I'm now going to miss my connection to London. It's a shambles. They can apologise as much as they want on Twitter but it's not good enough for the prices we pay."

A statement on the Northern Rail website said: "Northern Rail services between Blackburn and Accrington are being disrupted this morning due to overrunning engineering work.

"Blackpool South - Colne services and will start and terminate at Blackburn. Rail replacement buses are operating between Blackburn and Colne in both directions until further notice.

"Blackpool North - York services will divert via Manchester Victoria. 

"We would like to apologise to our customers for the delays this will cause this morning. Network Rail engineers are working to complete the remaining work as quickly as possible.
