‘OUTSTANDING’ teaching staff from across the country are set to be parachuted into schools in disadvantaged areas of East Lancashire.

The Future Leaders Trust is appealing for top teachers and head teachers to sign up to the charity’s programme to receive training and support before being sent to schools in the region.

It’s the first time that the scheme has focused on Lancashire after operating in other parts of the UK.

It is expected to recruit around 40 teachers this year with some of them being sent to East Lancashire to start their new jobs in September 2016.

Chief operating officer Heath Monk said that ‘The Talented Leaders Programme’ would help drive up standards.

He said: “There are some outstanding head teachers in East Lancashire already.

“Schools in disadvantaged areas do have problems with attracting the very best leaders and we are hoping to help them with that.

“We are not saying that East Lancashire does not have top head teachers because it does.

“The trust is seeking to help schools even more and also save them money and time that would normally be spent in advertising for positions.

“The applicants will go through a selection process with us and if they are successful with receive training and support during the summer.

“At the same time they will be placed in a school ready for them to start in the new academic year.

“The programme has been successful in other areas of the country and we placed around 20 headteachers last year .”

The Future Leaders Trust is accepting applications until December 12. Placements are available across the country, including East Lancashire.

The trust will give schools £50,000 through its Leadership Sustainability Fund to help schools improve and build a strong leadership team and successful applicants will be given £15,000 to help them relocate to East Lancashire.
