It forms part of the consultation about the planned refurbishment of Greenfield Community Centre’s multi-use games area and other events due to be held at the venue.

The actor, who played headteacher Brian Packham during his time on the cobbles, opened the event before signing photos and chatting to young fans.

Mr Gunn reminisced about how actor William Roache, aka Ken Barlow, made him feel very welcome on his first day on the Corrie set and invited him to make himself a brew.

Residents who turned up to the Hallowe’en-themed event at the centre in Green Lane got the chance to take part in traditional apple bobbing and crafts. The event from noon to 3pm, also saw spookily dressed youngsters judged in a Hallowe’en fancy dress competition.

They also got to take part in face painting and have fun on a climbing wall and a bouncy castle.

Music was provided by a five-piece pop band Majesticks and there was dancing entertainment.

Cllr Julie Gunn said one thing that had come out of the event was that many people wanted a mother and toddler group at the centre.

She said: “It is a really fantastic community centre and we would like residents to make the most of it and we would like them to tell us how they would like it to be used and what kind of activities and groups they would like to set up.”

Cllr Konrad Tapp said the consultation event had been a big success. He said: “We asked residents for feedback to find out what they wanted. I thought it was excellent and it brought the residents into the centre.”

Jane Coultherd, from the charity HfT which manages the centre, said: “It was very well attended and they did have a lot of feedback from the local community.”
