A MAN suffered a fractured skull during an attack near Rawtenstall bus station.

The 38-year-old victim was punched, fell to the ground and hit his head on the pavement during the assault, which happened at 3.30am on Sunday, November 1, in Bacup Road, close to the junction of James Street.

The man is currently in an induced coma at Royal Preston Hospital, where his condition is described as “critical”.

Police believe the man was given first aid by passers-by at the scene and they would like anyone who saw the incident to come forward.

DC Barry James, of Burnley CID, said: “Many people were in the area at the time due to the Vogue nightclub coming to a close.

“At the time of the incident, the injured male was given first aid by two known witnesses, but we know a further two females assisted prior to the ambulance arriving.

“We would like to speak to these individuals.”
