A 75-YEAR-OLD woman has died following an incident in Crawshawbooth.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after the accident which happened at about 10.15am on Tuesday.

The woman, named as Diane Bottomley, from Crawshawbooth, had been waiting in a bus layby in Burnley Road.

As a white BMW 5 Series saloon car pulled into the layby to pick her up, an accident occurred causing the woman to fall backwards.

She sustained head injuries and was taken for treatment at Royal Preston Hospital where she died later that day.

Sgt Sean Cunningham from the Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic accident and my thoughts remain with the family and friends of Diane.

“We are trying to establish exactly how this accident came about and I would appeal to anybody with any information to get in touch.

“We believe there may have been a dark coloured saloon car passing the scene at the time and the occupants may have seen what happened in the bus layby. I would urge the driver of this car to come forward as they may have valuable information.”
