The pub on Roman Road was taken down before the demolition had been officially authorised so now there is a requirement to return the application for consideration by members of the committee.

The Punch Bowl Inn held a prominent position on the corner of Pot House Lane and Roman Road and approval is sought for the construction of five pairs of three bedroom semi-detached houses.

The proposal now also involves the retrospective approval for the demolition of the pub.

The new dwellings will in the main front Roman Road and will each have private gardens to the front and rear as well as two dedicated parking spaces.

There were several objections to the plans which included concern at the loss of the building which was considered a landmark but it could not be saved despite attempts to have it listed.

The application will once again go before Blackburn with Darwen Council’s development control committee on Thursday and officers are recommending that the plans be approved.
