A HOUSING company arranged a tidy-up day to clear land which had been dumped with large amounts of litter and waste.

The overgrown site at the back of Ribble Avenue, Burnley, was filled with household items and unwanted rubbish that had been left to rot, causing an eyesore.

Following requests from residents, Calico’s Neighbourhood Action Team (NAT) for Burnley North, spent the day clearing the rubbish in the area and cutting the overgrown grass and weeds, with the help of the caretaking team.

A skip was provided for larger waste items found throughout the day.

Julian Whitley, sponsor manager for the Burnley North NAT, explained: “The Neighbourhood Action Team each have a patch in the north to maintain spaces.

“We got a request from a caretaker and went down for a couple of hours which made a significant difference.

“I’m really proud of the work the team has done. It’s made a massive difference to the area – the land is now completely clear.

“One of the residents I spoke to on Ribble Avenue on the day told me she was really grateful for our help, which is really great to hear.

He added: “The work we have done has appeared to have had a big impact and the customers are extremely grateful for the work.

“A caretaker also said that we have done a fantastic job and we should be really proud.

“We have a great team behind us who have helped us to achieve this.

“To maintain this land, the Neighbourhood Action Team will ensure it is top priority as we want to provide the best quality as possible.”
