AN investigation has been launched after residents in the Little Harwood area of Blackburn experienced low water pressure.

Ward councillor Mustafa Desai has called on provider United Utilities to do more after homes were left with a trickle from their taps for a number of days.

The company, which was unable to confirm how many customers had been affected, said an underground leak could be the source of the problem and that work to pinpoint the exact cause was under way.

A spokesman said: “We’re sorry about the pressure problems customers have been experiencing.

“There was a burst water main on Monday in Fountain Street which affected water supplies in the local area.

“That was repaired later on Monday. However, we believe there is another issue in the area and we are investigating.

“There may be an underground leak which is not showing on the surface, or there could be a problem with one of our valves.

“Our night leakage detection team will be using specialist equipment to investigate this further.”

Cllr Desai said: “Nothing seems to have been done since residents first complained. I hope the problem is fixed.”
